How we Began

Oil Capital Collectibles is founded by three generations of antique advertising collectors.  After 30+ years of collecting we made the decision to pursue our dream of making a business out of our beloved hobby.

Oil Capital Collectibles provides various platforms to market antique advertising collectibles including live and online auctions along with facilitating private sales.  Our expertise is quality advertising including signs, gas pumps & globes, coin-operated machines, clocks, displays, etc. from all genres including Automobilia, Brewerania, Country Store, Petrolania and Soda.

Our mission is to foster and preserve the historical value of collectibles while growing and maintaining the comradery of the hobby. Above all we value honesty and integrity in all our practices.

A Family Tradition

The passion began in the mid-1980’s as my father Jim Patton Sr. wanted a Barnsdall sign or gas pump globe to adorn his small-town Tire and Appliance Store in NE Oklahoma.  The affection for the Barnsdall Oil Company in my family is generational.  My grandfather, Finnis Patton, was the plant electrician at the Barnsdall Refinery in Barnsdall, OK for 38 years and my father put himself through college working at the refinery during the summers.

As he began to look for the Barnsdall Oil Company memorabilia, he brought me along for the hunt and I quickly gained an interest in oil & gas and automobile related collectibles.  Simultaneously fueling my passion was being exposed to the excitement and thrill of numerous auctions with my grandmother who was an avid antique collector dating back to the 1960’s.  For my 15th birthday my father bought me Scott Anderson’s “Check the Oil” which I literally memorized and after buying my first sign, a Conoco Minuteman, in 1987……there was no turning back.

Oil Capital Collectibles Today

Fast forward 32 years and we have acquired the largest Barnsdall Oil Company advertising collection on the planet, a formidable collection of Oklahoma based oil company memorabilia and multiple buildings packed with diverse collectibles. Our interests have expanded into automobilia, coin-op, country store, soda and toys.  I have two teenage sons who are regulars at shows, swap meets and auctions, a son who is 5 and just getting started and an incredibly supportive wife of 22 years.

The tire store is long gone; the passion is as robust as ever and still growing, and the memories are endless.  We look forward to supporting the hobby by providing fair and honest mediums for the buying and selling of our collecting passions.

Sincerely,

Jim Patton
